But, according to many variations of Christianity, it's not enough to just do good works. What's required, more than anything else, is the acceptance of Jesus as the son of god, and the importance/power of his sacrifice.
One could cure disease, end war, solve world hunger, etc., but would still go to hell/be separated from god because they didn't accept him.
