The irony being, of course, that this is what is likely to happen.  

The calculateers (yup, new word for ya) base their calculations on likely turn-out (from trend data).

By piling all the x-voters into one district, where they win a huge majority, and spreading the y-voters across remaining districts, where they win with 'just enough' votes... yup... it doesn't take much of an up-surge in voter turn-out to wipe party y off the map.

The Democrats need a moderate who at least has a message that will resonate with the blue collar workers in the Rust Belt and Coal States.
