At some point, you'd think we Americans should take stock of these ideas and, as Dr. Phil might ask, "how's that working out for us?"
The entire Bush administration should be used as a case study of how well conservative ideas work. During his entire 8 years, conservatives got everything on their wish list. Even after the spineless Dems took control of congress in 2006, they still rolled over to all his demands.
"We want massive tax cuts for the rich to stimulate the economy!" *Check*
"We want to deregulate the markets because they can regulate themselves." *Check*
"We want to wage two wars without worrying about how to pay for them" *Check*
"We're done with Afghanistan. We'll treat it as a side show operation." *Check*
"We want to have free reign to spy on Americans" *Check*
"We think deficits don't matter" *Check*
"Let us torture people without consequence" *Check*
Everything conservatives wanted was served up on a silver platter with a side order of delicious Democrat rollovers.
And the results of the experiment are in:
Tax cuts produced the worst job creation since Hoover.
Deregulation produced the greatest meltdown since the stock market crash of 1929.
A repeat of Vietnam in Iraq and Afghanistan
Spying and torture failed to crush Al Qaida. In fact, they reconstituted. These activities did erode our Constitution and reputation abroad.
They doubled the deficit and now are squawking about it.
So conservatives, the entire Bush debacle is a demonstration of the failure of your ideas. You were tested and found wanting. The whole mess we're in right now is something you own. So stop whining and crying that you want your country back. You wrecked it.
