The oldest expression of atheism -on record- .....coming to us by way of heterodox hinduism, circa 600BC. Atheism (in history) was much more commonplace when the religious field was dominated by polytheism because polytheism is fundamentally more inclusive than monotheism. If we dial the notch to way, wayback..we know that even aong the earliest proto-religious societies..there were people who did not always believe the things their group considered sacred to be sacred by the swift desecration of red ochre burials.
If a tribe believes that somebody really needs their favorite axe in the afterlife and that it is good and proper to bury them with it in reverence...the fact that someone dug it up almost as quick as it was buried suggests -some- disagreement on that count between members of the group. Uncle Ogg wasn't buying any of that "summerland" business with the great horned elk...and he had mouths to feed. Atheism is as old as the human species, at least...and a great deal older than christianity, or any "false" religion one follower of some other false religion cares to point out. It's been with us for as long as we've had thoughts in our head.
