In any case, who cares about "the value of free will". It'd be nice to have wings too..doesn't mean I have them. The above is a variant of "If this were true, it would be bad, therefore it's not true". That dog doesn't hunt. Meanwhile, whatever it is we do have does what it does even if it's not a "free will"...so comments on the value of some "free will" are supposed to mean what, exactly?
The notion that there may be no such thing as a "free will" is only bad for certain religions, and has no value outside of them. The value it possesses -within- them invariably amounts to some comment about how whores deserve what they get...so even that's more than a little bit suspect.
