I'm curious why you specify "atheist, not agnostic" but you don't need to answer that here if you prefer not to. There are many of us here who self describe as both agnostic and atheist. Perhaps you feel better prepared to defend the position that gods do not exist than do I.
I think that when you look at all the evidence around us on how we have evolved, and where we came from, and combine that with all the lack of evidence to prove a god exists, there can be no other conclusion then religion is man made. Also, realizing that science continues to pursue our understanding of these things, and is making more progress all the time, the scales of evidence/opinion and reason are gaining ground on belief in spirits and gods.
One of the more compelling arguments for me is that if there was a god, I don't think we would be having this conversation. Everyone would know and accept it. Yet as our understanding of all things grows, so does atheism, albeit at a slow and gradual increase. God remains a no show

Nope, worked in the oil industry in Canada.
