Safety. If the people in a room are, for whatever reason, incapacitated, emergency response couldn't get to them. Two immediate examples I can think of are carbon monoxide poisoning (a frequent occurrence in New England during the winter with poorly maintained and/or ventilated heating systems) and science classroom issues (fires, explosions, chemical spills/issues, etc.).
