Nah, nuns use rulers for deadly knuckle bumping effect. I doubt there is a bump ruler, though.
I wouldn't have had to worry about corporal punishment, if I had gone to a Catholic school (I didn't). It was well-known that nobody struck a Fireball family member, even in the '50s and '60s when it was allowed. Just send home a note- there is no worse punishment the school could give than what was going to happen at home. Flip side, my dad (6'-1", 160 pounds soaking wet) in one case had a former football player backed into into a janitor's closet in a choke hold for smacking one of my brothers for some sort of infraction. Word got out. My younger siblings got a lot less heat because of it. Not that they were real cut-ups, anyway.
