Here's a Quinnipiac Poll from November 4, 2015 which showed that Trump was in a virtual tie with Ben Carson for the lead.

Keeping in mind the slow learning curves we've noted since 2008, I'm not sure it's really under the bridge. Might take a few more election cycles to get the fog lifted enough to start winning back those 1000 seats in state and national offices. In fact, relying on 'off year' curse to the party in power instead of running desirable candidates with taut/efficient campaigns might bite us in the ass. How many wake up calls are we looking at before one sticks ?
