I don't know how to call it either... maybe compatible personalities or complementary ones, it is very helpful more than if we were completely different personalities 
But yes ... the soul mates, I don't think so...anything like that exists, of course we can be very similar to each other, have similar interests, think similarly, want similar things ... but we don't have to love each other... or the contrary we can!
But for me true love is such a love that is real and vital.. it means for me.. it's my own choice, my decision that i love this person. This is not butterflies in my stomach, because sooner or later they will fly away and only the painful reality will stay.. oh not only hehe... it's not a fascination and thinking about the soul mate, because it will also end. This is my conscious choice that every day I'll try to discover something that is beautiful and valuable in this other person.. and each day I'll give more myself to this other person. The true love ..it's being built every day from scratch ... it's a giving yourself ... but also to let ourselves be loved...
