The popular vote isn't determined state by state, wyrd. That's pretty much the opposite of what it means for something to -be- the popular vote at the federal level. Simply conceptualizing it that way is the very kernel of cracking and packing that's fucked our elections.
For simplicity's sake, if we chunked up "the popular vote" state by state, and there were ten states..then we could say that some candidate "won the popular vote in nine states" even if they only won 9 votes of out a possible 100. The reason that we don;t..is that this completly and fundamentally misses the very thing we're discussing when we discuss the popular vote,.
Trump lost the popular vote, not by a little..by a lot, period. However much we the people hate hitlery, we the people decided to vote for her rather than him...regardless of how effectively his minority stake was positioned to game our system.
