Middle class and poor: Ok, as long as we get a tax cut.
Congress proceeds to cut taxes for the poor and middle class by 10 cents for every dollar it gives to the wealthy.

Repeat that 10 times.

Yep that is the scam. Get people to vote against their own self interests. Whatever the middle and poor get as far as tax breaks over long periods gets swamped by the long term debt the rich get for their tax breaks. It basically feels good short term but the middle and poor get fucked long term. The greedy assholes who sell this never want to talk in terms of ratios and the debt the rich create.
