It's not a shortcut. It's a methodology. Without it, you believe any utter shit any random person comes up with. Even intelligent people get fooled and believe stuff without proper evidence, if its one of their "pet woos". That's no reason for every other intelligent person to follow suit.
His sense of entitlement to having a say in how we form our beliefs is astounding.
