I agree with without sight the quality of my life would significantly drop, but I dont know if I would kill myself.
I just can't see (no pun intended) any point to life (for me) without sight. I'm a nerd who spends nearly all of his spare time in front of a computer. Sure, I could learn alternate ways to read but I'm also a visual/graphics oriented person. I just can't conceive of life without sight as anything but a purgatory.
One doesn't need eyesight to contribute to the advancement of, say, mathematics. https://www.biography.com/people/leonhar...r-21342391
Whether you are Euler's equal in some other discipline is up for you to decide. I personally am a visual learner, and am not certain how I would proceed with my life if I lost my vision. I have as hobbies since I retired (and before)- woodcarving, woodworking and metalworking, and maintenance, repair and upgrades to an old truck that I use to tow a (6000 pound) camping trailer. This doesn't include what I do on line, which is a lot. I'd still be able to use Braille on the wife, though.

If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
