Yeah, I recall sitting with my father-in-law just after he had broken his hip and had all sorts of steel bars put in. He was in a nursing home because he had been hit with a series of TIAs too. His lucid moments were sporadic but I said to him "so how is the rehab going." He surprised me by answering clearly "I'm 93 years old and there is only so much I'm willing to do."
