I think, though, that you probably do want to feel that your actions fall within a comfortably moral range. Both "he wasn't such an asshole" and "wasn't a moral narcissist" are moral awards...moral accolades. You beat the assholes and the narcissists. Those declarations establish a relative high ground between you and whomever falls into the other sets of "was such an asshole" and "totally unbearable narcissist".
You're just such a solid guy you don't want to make a big fuss out of it, even though the other guys are a bunch of narcissistic assholes. That might even add another inch in moral elevation.
