This is part of the problem, the keep people alive at all costs mentality. "Death panel" is scare tactic bullshit.
A 96 year old acquaintance of mine was bed ridden/non ambulatory and dying. An oncologist found skin cancer on his face and convinced the family to take him in for radiation treatments 5 days a week. He died during the 3rd month of treatment. What do you think his quality of life was during those lasts months?
Just because you can do a thing does not mean that you should. Medical professionals need to learn when to say no.
