Story time:
Early 1980s, Boston Children's Hospital. Back before the 'new' building was built (which was over 30 years ago) and patients didn't have private or double rooms, but were instead in one of several large community rooms with 5 or more other patients. I always went to Division 14, which was on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
One of the nurses, Diana, was my favorite. For whatever reason, she and I hit it off from moment one. Our thing was her asking "Who ya gonna call?" and 4-6 year old me excitingly yelling back "GHOSTBUSTERS!" It was as corny as it was cute, but I was the only patient that she did that with. She made me feel special and safe in a world of chaos and pain.
When the 'new' building was completed, I would always be on the 10th floor. She was there for I think one surgery, maybe two, but then she transferred down to the ER. I don't know what happened with her after that. I hope she lived a good life and is enjoying retirement now.
But, yes, nurses are awesome. A rare few even surpass that.
EDIT: her name may have been Dianne instead of Diana. A quick search gives me someone who seems to fit the bill, and looks like an older version of the woman I remember (top listing): http://www.childrenshospital.org/patient...t-our-team
If that is her, much like I wrote about my favorite teacher in the other thread, I'm happy she's still making a small corner of the world a better place.
