I also think there would be enough participation in it to warrant a subsection. You could also have stories there, i have good stories to tell.
Plus it would be nice to have a place to go on the forum to see just that, and the new ones too. Off topic gets buried pretty quickly, so it's not just a matter of subscribing, not to mention not everyone does that. And I think it's just an idea worth it's own subject. I mean, video games has its own section.
I also think it would be good to find out more about people here, build more community and empathy between members to humanize them by finding out what their day to day lives are like.
Honestly I think that is already happening, it's just in the 'what are you up to right now' thread. But the problem with that thread is that its too cluttered, and its hard to get a perspective on the
individuals, also there are tons of stories about day to day life and about a million threads of people bitching about work, which is more of less a blog/life stories. It's just all in the clutter of the off topic.
If you build it, they will come!
