I should note that there is another verse saying that "associating other Gods with Allah" is in fact a sin:

So you can cross that explanation; which takes me to the first one I made once again; it's an exception.
I take it to be cherry picking from your side now. The English translation is not literal.
In Arabic; instead of "but" there is "and".
You cherry picked a meaning for the word "but" that doesn't exist in other dictionaries.
