Good news: We're finally going to build our space program back up.
Bad News: It's just going to be another show of dick-waving, and will almost certainly be even more pointlessly expensive than the Wall Trump wants to build.
It's been a while since I did this:
What exactly would even be the point of establishing American dominance over space? You know the reason the Soviets didn't end up going to the moon? They didn't see the fucking point! And now, Trump wants to rebuild America's space program, and turn it from something really awesome (if hobbled by conservatives who consider it pork barrel spending) and making it basically Starship Troopers except even more stupid because there aren't any bugs to fight against. It's like the colonial scrambles of the 18th-20th centuries, except there isn't really anything to colonize (well, at least we're not likely to commit genocide against the native Martians). Maybe if they're terraforming Mars or the Moon, but I get the feeling they're going to be far too interested in making space lasers or summat to actually make it practical to have a long-term space presence.
