Must be some of those "fine people" that the WLB was talking about.

Have you ever considered that a large percentage of racism in American was fomented by churches?  

For example, a group of religious con men get together and built an ornate church building at a hefty price.  It serves the neighborhood and its income is dependent on the local ethnic group that goes to that church.  But what happens if the neighborhood becomes integrated with a different ethnic group?  The church then loses its membership and income.  The con men are stuck with the mortgage and the lost of their income because people don't generally go to distant churches.  So the logical thing for the church conmen to do would be for them to put pressure on the politicians and bankers to resist integration.  That works out to oppressive laws, policing, job prospects, businesses closing, school problems, etc.  

I'll bet that if a city such as Detroit was really analyzed it would reveal that the churches were behind most of the racism.  And as the country becomes more diverse andneighborhoods become more integrated chucrches will become fewer and fewer because there's not enough of one local group to support them as there used to be.
