Yes, what could two authoritarian states do to our western values? I say we give up and let Putin and Communism fuck us up the ass.
The absurdity of it all is that Trump supporters think he is defending western democracy when it is clear he is doing everything to mimic the very same behaviors of their leadership.

the dems could win a heap of state legislative seats, governorships, Senate and House races and pass and have the required number of states approve some constitutional amendments . . . .
If I'm not mistaken, that is how the system is supposed to work.
Going through congress is certainly a more ideal way, putting more in than the other through voting. Yes, but the founders thought about the "what ifs" to prevent the erosion on checks on power.
That is why even with the SCOTUS future judges can over turn prior SCOTUS rulings. It is also why impeachment, which is not ideal, still has to be a tool just in case you put a nut in office.
We are a constitutional republic, not a pure democracy, a democracy yes, but not mob rule by vote. It is a false notion to claim closed states like China or Iran do not have elections, they do. But they do not have the amount of safety nets to prevent one family or one party dictating to everyone.
Oversight of power is what prevents us from looking like Putin's Russia or Iran's theocracy.
Our system of checks on power, and separation of power includes impeachment. The problem "majority rules" is that majority can be abusive too and anyone who has lived in a place where dissent is not tolerated can tell you what not being in that majority is like.
You use congress to foster overlap, you use courts and congress to force the president to stay on a leash. Take away that oversight you end up with a bad authoritarian dictator and or one party state.
