RE: President Sh*thole craps on NATO/op ed

I'm no fan of Angela Merkel but Donald's comments about Germany do strike me as weird and unnecessary. Donald seems to dislike strong women, so there's that. Though he's really uneducated and just generally moronic - never doing any research on topics - so it's probably not all sexism.
In terms of NATO, the defence contractors must be licking their lips with glee right about now, at the thought of the president wanting to try and force countries to spend more on their respective armed forces. So there's that angle of it. He may simply be trying to please some of his donors - just like any other president in his position would be if they accept bribes from cooperations.
Still, NATO needs to be crapped on as it has outlasted its usefulness as it's not the 1950s anymore (as much as Donald Trump would like to to think it is). Europe needs to become sovereign again and stop relying on USA for so much (especially defence). I always feel insulted when a country with legalised bribery of politicians and such a terrible way of electing its politicians is described as being "leader of the free world". Get out of here!
Millions of Europeans were fed up of the USA long before the Trump Administration. Why are Americans only waking up now? Clearly previous administrations were more subtle in how they treated the Europeans but there was still pressure to join in on pointless conflicts the USA wanted to start simply because they were a member of NATO. My grandparents live within walking distance of US nuclear weapons - I do not feel safe! I want US military bases out of my country and millions of Europeans feel the same way (e.g. Jeremy Corbyn has talked about the UK leaving NATO). It's so pretentious of people claim that it is only now that Donald Trump is president that people grow weary of the USA.
