Is Christianity unique or not?
#3
RE: Is Christianity unique or not?
That article contains a lot of debunked bullshit, like:

Quote:Osiris is not resurrected from death to life. Instead he is changed into another form and lives in the underworld in a zombie state.

It is actually belived Osiris was the judge of the dead and the underworld agency that granted all life, including sprouting vegetation and the fertile flooding of the Nile River.'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osiris

Quote:Christianity insists on and defends the historical credibility of the Gospel accounts while the pagan cults make no such attempt.

Actually not true, like
most scholars of Hinduism and Indian history accept the historicity of Krishna - that he was a real male person, whether human or divine, who lived on Indian soil by at least 1000 BCE and interacted with many other historical persons within the cycles of the epic and puranic histories.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krishna#Proposed_datings

Quote:Moreover, Mithraism flowered after Christianity, not before, so Christianity could not have copied from it. The timing is incorrect to have influenced the development of first-century Christianity. It is most likely the reverse: Christianity influenced Mithraism.

This was debunked long ago by Persian scholar and art historian, Abolala Soudavar who cited Plutarch, writing, "that in the year 67 BC, pirates who had more than a thousand sails and had captured more than four hundred cities, "offered strange rites of their own at Mount Olympus, and celebrated there, certain secret rites, among which those of Mithras continue to the present time, having been first instituted by them…"" Soudavar submits that Plutarch pins Mithraic worship in Rome long before the birth of Christ, and it is therefore improbable that Christian traditions informed Mithraic, but rather the opposite.

Quote:Parallels quickly break down when the facts are analyzed. In the pagan myths, the gods lust after women

LOL!!! And god of the Bible doesn't lust after women?!! Are you fucking kidding me?

Isaiah 3:17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

Nahum 3:5 I am against you. This is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts. I will lift your skirts over your face and display your nakedness to nations, your shame to kingdoms.

Ezekiel 23:19-21 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
