THANKS FOR MAKING THIS THREAD FOR US!!!!
By the way, my old house is 109+. How old is yours? Or are you just doing relatively new house renovations? We are renovators/restorers/remodelers by trade so I'm a lot like the shoemaker's wife who has no shoes----we're not real enthusiastic about coming home from work to work on our own house.
The house I grew up in was a few decades older than that. I loved it! Ours is only 60 years old, but it needs a lot of modernization, as the people who built it really leaned toward trends in materials, etc. Nothing is aging well in terms of style. For example, we have beautiful wide-plank pine floors in the living room, but they're pretty fucking orange in terms of finish. What color are the wood panel walls, you may ask? Also that same orangey-pine. Why? It was the 1960s. Tiberius hates them.
There are other more pressing problems, like really old particle board cabinet shelves. We're tearing out and remodeling the entire kitchen. They also finished the basement with some outdated techniques, so it's got some issues. We're ripping that all right the fuck out. It'll be the man cave to end all man caves when we're done.
We have four fireplaces that they've converted to gas then just disconnected. We want them running on wood again and all of them operational.
Then, you just have the usual, gutter inspections, a bit of siding needs reshingling, painting, etc.
Are you restoring your house in spite of your line of work or did you buy it already restored? We wanted a previously restored Victorian home, but nothing came available while we were looking. We've got something of a Dutch colonial built out of its time.
