Again, when the president of the united states does it and not one, but two SCOTUS judges are appointed for life even after the reports are made, you know it's the norm rather than an exception.
It's an US thing, I get it. Like rich settlements to that avoid the preported rapist to be off the hook. Justice here does not allow that. Even if the rapist settled to pay a gazilion dollars to the victym, he would still be prosecuted by the state. Same with domestic violence, murder and the like.
This... 'culture' of paying off crimes is not accepted here. A rapist might confess his crime, that could be a mitigating factor for the sentence, but he will get one, no matter if the victym accepts a money compensation.
Is there an amount of money that pays for that crime? or any violent crime, for that matter?
