The explanation was simple: Some CB radio "enthusiasts" will build huge and dirty amplifiers on the side band of a channel to get as much range as possible. Because these transmitters are not tightly focused on a single frequency, they can play hell on TV's and radios. Why the clock radio was happy to broadcast this at us without being turned on was a bit of a mystery, but it hit the trash can the next day
