On the issue at hand, though...for the US..it's not much more than embarrassing for the current administration. That's all that we're reaping, regardless of what we may have sown. That's sort of fundamental to why it's a fucked up situation, or at least from this end it is. On this end, the "problem" is that the president is incompetent or conflicted..and because of this, botched his response.
This "fucked up situation" is the result of years and years of supporting the Sauds, with Trump doing it more obviously and more "honestly".
If the U.S didn't see -and it didn't see- that supporting dictatorships results in this, then the U.S is reaping what it sewed.
The history of the U.S foreign policy -and even domestic policy sometimes- is a series of fuck ups concerning human rights, starting with the use of the atomic bomb for the first time, then supporting animals like the Sauds, passing by invasions like the invasion of Iraq, ending up by supporting mad fucks like MBS.
You are right; it's a fucked up situation. But it was like this for years; been escalating also for years.
