Let' s look at reality.
Unless you want mountain lions, bears and wolves creeping about in your backyard - human hunters are the best option for controlling the deer population. Without predators the disease rate ( like CWD and bovine TB) spread quickly through the herd - as these diseases are spread through large groups of deer feeding off a common source. With ample food deer will have twins and triplets every year. Populations could double every year. That' s a whole lot of unhealthy deer.
And as earlier mentioned - vehicle/ deer accidents skyrocket. ( I whacked one on sa motorcycle - so I do get a twinge of revenge inspired glee when whacking one.
And - there' s no health care plan, or old age homes for deer. Cripples die slow. Old deer lose their teeth and starve to death. A well placed bullet is far less painful.
But, if you judge life by cartoons - feel bad for "Bambi".
Me - I' ll be eating wine sauce blackened backstraps on a bed of wild rice and scallions.
