" sporting chance" is simply adding some component to your hunt as to increase the likelihood of failure.
This isn't done for the benefit of the animal. It' s done for the benefit of the weak willed hunter that hasn't quite come to the reality of what they are doing, or why.
The only thing that would benefit the animal in a hunt is a quick painless death.
Setting up obstacles to make the hunt harder in the name of " sporting chance" is making the likely hood of a slow painful death for the animal more likely.
