Odd that - without exception the best shooters I know shoot the most, the worst - the least.

I did say "necessarily", because my own experience was that I got better with practice. I just know people who don't get better no matter how much trigger time they have because they ignore the basics and shoot like they think they should shoot. "Gangsta-style" shooters, for example, waste untold numbers of rounds trying to make that shit work.
