Butter side up on the cats feet obviously, taking into account the weight of the cat 4 pieces of toast butter side up should be sufficient to counteract the weight difference.
But that puts both floor-attracting foci in the same place (the bottoms of the cat's feet). I suspect the upshot of such an arrangement would be to rip the cat to pieces.
