Btw - you do realize that even if it's written in the Torah it doesn't mean it was a part of Judaism straight on back, right? Because I won't argue the belief of an afterlife nowadays. Fact remains it's a fantastically nebulous notion in Judaism period when compared to other religions, and most of it is tied to the notion of the messiah. Unless you start digging into Kabbalah, which most Jews don't.
