Flippancy has ever been a poor argument. I know many Christians will use flippancy to discredit evolution and the big bang theory, and that is isn't right either. But the primary argument of atheists (in general, not all of them) is that they use logic and reason rather than blindly following whatever they are taught, but the secondary argument is flippancy, devoid of any logic or reason.
Even so, I shall answer your question. The gospel is good news for me because it tells me that my sins have been paid for and that I can be reconciled back to God. Not by being good enough, by tithing, by praying, or by reading the Scriptures, but by faith alone. This is especially good news because I could never be good enough, tithing was commanded to the Israelites, not to the church, and praying and reading the Scriptures doesn't save anyone.

Who is talking about elitism and superiority? This thread is about evangelicals being ignorant to the tenets of their faith. If they are ignorant to it, they cannot very well believe it, can they? I'm just saying some people know what they believe in because they study the Word and seek God.
