I can say that there are lots of fans of the sport that have never played a down that understand the game better than many who have played. Joe Theisman for example, was a great quarterback but after he left he became a very HORRIBLE sports announcer.
The ability to see patterns in anything, just like computer programming is how football works. I can say that if she can see those patterns and coach based on that and do well, I don't think it should matter if she never played a down. But outside that, no fan of the party she supported.
And let me add. I have never played a down myself. But just yesterday, having watched football for over 40 years, in the Ohio game yesterday, I could not see how they fell for the fake punt considering how the offensive line lined up. It should have been obvious.
Nonetheless, coaching is a skill which takes practice, as well as a thorough background in other areas not related to the sport, specifically coaching as a subject in and of itself. I don't know what qualifications she brings to the job, but if this is true, and she is a good prospect, it will require more than just football knowledge.
(I've spent endless hours listening to my two sisters, lifelong gymnastics coaches, talk about the subject. Believe me, I know.
