And even then, it's still one of the most militarised borders on Earth, and, unlike any of the other countries on this list (except for the Bangladeshi-Indian border), we haven't been at war with Mexico since 1848, and we don't have incredibly powerful terrorist groups to warrant troop surges of that magnitude. Looking up terror plots involving the Mexico-US border in recent years, I found an article on Politifact that was able to find exactly two. Neither either one involved people who were actually FROM Mexico. The latter didn't even cross as part of the plot, unless you somehow suspect the plot was 23 years in the making.
