Atoms were detected. Now we can see and mess around with them. Now it's funny isn't it, we cannot see atoms but we detected them and now we are capable of splitting them and change the most dangerous of chemicals to harmless ones.

It depends on your definition of God. If God is Omnipresent and exists within all things it's impossible to measure him and his influence on the universe.
Imagine you are an ant and a foot crashes down. Does an ant know the foot is attached to a human being, a sentient living thing? Or does the ant perceive the foot no differently from how it would perceive an earthquake or flood?
An ants eyes, let alone its brain, couldn't clearly see the human being attached to the foot. It would assume the foot was a part of the garden, even though it wasn't.
