I will keep this intro short and sweet! π
Hello all, I am a beekeeper in their 30s taking a philosophy class while changing careers (to nursing). I consider myself to have profound life experiences regarding philosophical topics such as epistemology: the nature of belief (specifically the why). I use other forums like Lemmy but now want to branch out to here and try this website. My reason for joining stems from a youtube comment of a required video from our philosophy class (Crash Course Philosophy #3) that said tongue-in-cheek:Β "Thank you for proving me wrong and helping me learn something." -said no one on the Internet ever.
That youtube comment prompted me to do something I wanted to do since the start of the semester in late August: joining this website. I want to join this website because Lemmy is too similar to Reddit in that everything is too casual. Veritasium (pop-sci youtuber) would call it "system 1 thinking" (fast and intuitive). I am hoping that this website re-orients my brain towards system-2 thinking. I also like the fact that atheists tend to trend towards larger intelligence and also have a better understanding of concepts that are necessary in order to explain beliefs -- which even smart people on Lemmy/Reddit infrequently have.
