Pretty much " one shot, one kill" around here.
Rgr that, the only reason to have a 2nd round (be it bolt or semi auto or just another guy with a gun) is out of mercy for the animal...so that it doesn't lie there bleeding out while you try to ram another ball down, lol.
(I prefer sabot)
Also....-some- black powder guns are designed to throw a wall of lead downrange. I have a black powder double barrel that tosses out a couple handfuls of what may as well be ball bearings. All you have to do is point it at some turkeys and you've bagged your limit in a single shot.
The second round is for the second deer. I got 2 last year within 30 seconds of each other - with a .357 mag single shot.
This year I got two inside of 45 minutes - beaucoup time to reload.
Next year it will be an AR15 with a 450 Bushmaster upper. It' s simply my cheapest way to get a high quality repeating rifle in .450. .450 is simply the best round we are able to use in this part of the state. We can't use " real" rifles here - but only those chambering straight walked pistol proprietary rounds.
You never know when a second target will present itself.
I shoot from inside my soundproofed blind - making my gun' s report very hard for a deer (or the neighbors) from telling where the round came from.
My neighbor thought the .357 was a 22 short.
