A.my “ goodness”, or subjective morality, comes from me.
B. I’m not big on practicing a lot of dogmatic rituals, mostly I just try and practice patience.
Yes your subjective morality DOES come from you, so why do you feel the need to believe books written by people who didn't know where the sun went at night?
You don't need to "Practice" believing in magic babies with super powers. Just like you don't need to "Practice" believing Thor makes lightening.
I see the need to believe the Bible because, for me, it holds truth I value and informs my subjective morality.
I can follow teachings/religion
I can practice living those teaching/ my religion
I also happen to like my teachings and religion
None of those are mutually exclusive, as others have tried to point out to you.
Did I jump into another one of your rants where you just want to vent and not have your questions actually answered. Ill go back to my coffee. Feel free to PM me if this turns into more than just a rant thread, I wouldn’t want to go where I’m not wanted.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
