It's no mistake that Christianity at least, has tended to side with the status quo. Well, at least since it became a completely corrupt organisation, around the 4th century when it was made the state religion. It got a taste of power and began killing opponents. That practice continued until the 17th century.
The only reason the practice stopped is because the law stopped it. There is no doubt in my mind that at least some denominations would happily burn people today alive if they could.
To quote my cousins, "There ya go agin, usin' them big words to confuse people."
Big words? Didn't really check as I wasn't addressing the resident apologists. I admit, I do find it hard to use words of 2 syllables or less.
