I'm sort of OK with there being no golden era after the defeat of the evil empire. There's just more evil empire. I just don't think that the story telling is very good. There's no new guise under which evil re-asserts itself. No good ideas turned bad. No rancid legacy left in the wake of heroes. But that's probably a problem with the franchise, itself. Star Wars never did have any nuance. It's just good guys, bad guys, and an innocent farm boy longing for adventure. There's not a whole lot that you can do with it, and remain true to the franchise.
We do not inherit the world from our parents. We borrow it from our children.
