From memory, the Christian church has also gotten along spiffingly with many dictators.------ the dominant religion usually sides with the status quo.
Goes back a very long way in history: "to the common people, the gods are real, to the wise man, nonsense, to the ruler, useful" . (Not sure from whom, possibly Epicurus)
The psycho in charge in Saudi Arabia may be assassinated by his own if they feel threatened enough. The CIA will help if the US thinks its interests are being threatened. (as they did in Chile with Salvador Allende)
