Why does stating I have no obligation to do anything make me a dick? Is that where you stop reading. ex. I have no obligation to give people money, but I do anyways when the moment strikes me. Does that sentence indicate I'm generous or a dick? Maybe reordering the presentation the phrase will be a little clearer.
"when merging and allowing merged cars on interstates or around road construction I usually apply the zipper method."
"It's a courtesy and I usually have no problems allowing people in"
"If I'm stuck in the feeder lane I usually attempt to time my speed to allow for a gap, nominally though I just get over to the left lane. "
Yet, I'm don't legally or socially have to let people over. If that makes me a dick than I'm a 10 ft wiener.
It's not dismissive, it's assumptive. It's not being taught in enough states to make a difference nationwide (5 so far). The road incidents I've seen here in the states point to lack of attention being the worst causes of accidents and as peple's attention can barely be kept on the road, it's unlikely the waning attention spans of Americans will accept a zipper style adoption prior to automated driving cars adoption. If you look at how they are implemented in interstate mergers here the light is not at the merger lane end, but the beginning. They zipper 2 on ramp lanes together prior to the merger and space them for integration into the main stream. There are better methods than education and the simple end of the merger zipper. I think both of your points are moot, better than current free for all method possibly, but not really a viable solution for here in the US long term.
Zipper merge is superior and you've already conceded to that (which you failed to at first). This was my only point. This discussion is going nowhere. That you're now trying to change the argument into whether or not you're an angry driver is testament to how disingenuous you're being. And to be honest, I don't care. Be safe out there. Learn to let people over.
Thanks for coming.
