The idea that Israel was 'installed' to nail down the middle east is a profoundly silly concept. If nailing down the ME is the goal, then Israel is exactly the sort of thing that you would not want to put on the board. Nailing down the ME would be a lot easier without Israel. Supporting a Jewish homeland and nailing down the ME has been quite a tightrope walk.
