We called a few years ago and had animal control come and rescue three baby squirrels. I wouldn't have known they were out in the yard had our little terrier mix not brought one to the door (that would have been baby number four had she not found him). A young man showed up and was so exited. He said he raised some baby squirrels when he was a kid and he was going to take these three home with him.
We haven't had good luck with baby rabbits. We did save two. Kept them in a cage in the house and fed them a little rabbit food and lots of grass shoots from the yard. When they got a bit bigger we drove then out to a local lake/camping area. As soon as we pulled up we saw two other rabbits at the edge of the brush. We opened the cage and out the babies hopped and followed the bigger ones into the underbrush.
Baby birds we haven't been very successful with. I think that they are too far gone by the time we find them.
We just have to be mindful of the dogs being real focused on an area in the yard...that tends to be where we find babies of one type or another.
Good on ya for trying to help.
