IDK. My best serious guess is that dude was under the impression that he had depleted uranium, and figured that he or someone else could make armor-piercing bullets or some other super-dense bullshit with it.

Won't he get a surprise when he tries to melt Uranium ore.    Yellow cake melts at twice the melting temperature of steel.
