I'll go further. It is the transitory, fleeting things that are more often meaningful than the lasting, 'eternal' things. I find the smile of a child to be much more meaningful (on a personal level) than the light from a quasar.
The point is that *for us* there are meaningful things and we place great importance on them. But that in no way implies they are of *cosmic* or *eternal* importance.
