I do get why you think the bit seems silly. The points of reference, though, arent. Those are legit...and even the nuttiest believer is conceptually leaning on a more legitimate piece of data than their own ridiculous beliefs. More legitimate even by their own reckoning, lol.
That's not true.
Plenty of religious naturalists believe in spirituality and god, so long as those things can be explained by naturalistic phenomenon.

After all, why not just call it naturalism if there is no religious connotation?
And no, if you're claiming there is a god, we should really see some evidence for that claim, which we never do, so it's always silly.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
